Oncourse CL

What is Oncourse CL?

Oncourse CL is a powerful online Collaboration and Learning Environment (CLE), based on open source software from the Sakai Project. Its broad array of functionalities allows collaboration among students, groups, and faculty peers involved in teaching and learning, committee work, projects, research, and portfolios. Oncourse CL facilitates learning interaction among faculty and students, making it a unique platform for innovation in research and education.


Why might I use Oncourse CL?

Oncourse CL supports various options for collaboration and learning:

  • Academic Course Sites (syllabus, roster, tests & quizzes, Gradebook)
  • Academic Research Committees (faculty research group, dissertation committee, research subjects)
  • Collaborative Authoring (wiki, forum, chat, group spaces)
  • Department Collaborative Committees (employee search, department records archive, group resources & documents)
  • Group Communication Center (distribution list, internal messaging, calendar, announcements & notifications)
  • Innovative Options for Content Distribution (podcasting, iTunesU, web content, citation lists)
  • Personal Web Space (my workspace, personal profile, file storage, simple web hosting)
  • Student Activities (student study group, research, student organization)

How do I get started?

Log in to Oncourse CL using your IU Network ID - username and password.


If you are new to Indiana University or unfamiliar with Oncourse CL and wish to quickly learn the ropes, download the Oncourse CL Quick Start Guide: For Instructors.


You may find it useful to request a site, either a practice course site or a project site.
